About Us

Originally a single Latin in Line class with a regular attendance of around half a dozen each week, Simon created Trinity Wellbeing NE in October 2010 when he started teaching Zumba Fitness classes, and offered private psychic and mediumistic readings as well as Reiki healing. In May 2012, after providing Zumba Fitness classes (including Zumba Toning, Zumba Kids, Zumba Kids Jr, Zumba Gold and Zumba Sentao) across Stockton, Middlesbrough, Stokesley and Darlington for over 18 months, Trinity Wellbeing NE updated itself to fit its livelier schedule and became SpiriFit. Continuing to provide fitness classes across Teesside and offer spiritual readings and healing, SpiriFit is also organising an increasing amount of special events, including a number raising funds for different local, national and international charities.

Simon Keay

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASimon began dancing when he was 8 years old, attending a single jazz/disco class at Janet Dickinson School of Dance. Over the following 10 years that he trained with Janet, he progressed to pick up Line Dance, Salsa, Ballet, Tap and Dancersize. Outside of the dance school, Simon also took some classes in Street Dance hosted by the Arc in Stockton. During his time at Ian Ramsey C. of E. Secondary School, Simon discovered his enjoyment of the wider world of performing arts, playing chorus and main parts in a vast number of performances, from small group pieces for school assemblies to full school plays, including Romeo & Juliet, A Tale of Two Cities and Blood Brothers. This passion continued through his later years, when he joined and performed with a number of amateur dramatic and musical societies in Stockton and Middlesbrough, with parts in Guys & Dolls, Pandemonium, Annie, The Follies, Annie, Hickory Dickory Dock and My Fair Lady, to name a few.

Through his late teens Simon took part in a number of projects, both short and long term, with Stockton Youth Service, including local projects such as Stockton Youth Assembly and the Stockton Youth Bank grant giving panel, to national and international schemes such as Actions Speak Louder, a competition for projects supported by youth grants, and Arciragazzi, a European initiative to target bullying and promote social inclusion and cohesion. During this time working with groups of young people, he began to take workshops in Salsa-Jazz and Line Dancing for various events hosted by the Youth Service and its various projects. In 2005, at just 17 years old, Simon got his first temporary teaching post – a 4-week Line Dance course for children with disabilities, hosted by Stockton Parent Support.

Summer 2006 saw Simon take control of his first long term adult Line Dancing class for St John’s Livingwell, and the following January started an adult Salsa class. After spending a Summer working at a camp for children and young people with Aspergers and ADHD in Pennsylvania, USA, and a year working as a Primary School Teaching Assistant, Simon founded his own company (Simon Keay, Dance Instruction) in May 2008 and started an adult Latin in Line class at St John’s Church Centre in Stockton, also teaching occasional workshops. In recent years he has also choreographed for local amateur dramatic society, Centre Stage, in Eaglescliffe for some of their performances, including High Society (July 2007), Calamity Jane (July 2011), Half a Sixpence (July 2012) and the pantomime Dick Turpin (January 2011).

In August 2010 Simon completed his training as a Zumba instructor, starting his first class on the 1st October in the same year. Since then he has gained a number of classes, all of which have continued to grow in size and demand. Since those early days he has continued to expand his Zumba career with continuing professional development courses, licensing him to teach a variety of Zumba Fitness specialty programs (often pioneering those programs in the local area), including Zumba Toning, Zumba Kids & Kids Jr, Zumba Sentao, Zumba Gold and Zumba Gold-Toning.

During the early months of his Zumba classes, Simon began taking latin and ballroom lessons with Victoria Armstrong School of Dance in Norton, taking particularly well to the latin dances with his Zumba experience. Since he joined the school in March 2011 he has taken his grades to Gold and Gold Bar standards respectively with IDTA, receiving high marks in his exams. Simon has also competed locally and nationally against his peers, achieving Male National Medalist of the Year 21-34 yrs. in both disciplines in 2012 and Area Male Medalist of the Year for Ballroom and Latin in 2014.

Spurred on by his love of the dance styles, Simon trained as a pioneer instructor in a new dance-fitness program based around the genres in July 2013 and successfully launched the first FitSteps classes in the Tees Valley. During his initial training day, he was also invited to audition to become a part of the FitSteps training team for the North of England and Scotland. Since his induction on to the team in August of the same year, he has worked with program founders Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite (both veteran professional from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing) and his fellow training team members to train and introduce new instructors and participants to the program, as well as assisting in the delivery of professional development ‘Flair’ courses for existing instructors.

Simon’s journey into Spiritualism began with his first deck of Tarot cards, which he received at the age of 13. In October 2004 he began attending services at Norton Christian Spiritualist Church, and started in the development class the following March. Over the next 4 years he trained not only under the teachers at Norton Church, but also with other local mediums Julie-Ann Ali and Irene Morris, and finally fledged as an experienced member from Norton Church in September 2009. Since then he has been taking services at Spiritualist churches across the region.

Following on from his time as a developing psychic and medium, Simon trained as a Reiki Healer. Taking his first degree under Reiki Master Andrew Knox in 2006, he progressed to the second degree in the following year with Sue and Pat Rowland and has since performed Reiki treatments on clients in the UK and US.
